The original Joyful Noise Homeschool Band, based in Cobb County, Ga., began as a vision in the heart of our Founder and Program Director, Susan Davis.  Wanting a musical education for her own children, Susan soon realized that there weren't many opportunities for home educated children to participate in a concert band.  After much prayer, she decided to form the Joyful Noise Homeschool Band.  A director was hired, and the first year began with a handful of excited students.  Now in its 14th year, JNHB has grown to almost 250 students, with four levels of band, plus orchestra, guitar, chorus, worship team and various other classes.

In 2007, Nancy Jones, whose sons had been members of the Cobb County Joyful Noise Band, implored Susan to bring a "satellite" branch of the Band to Gwinnett County to serve the Northeast Atlanta area.  Susan was very happy to see this ministry extended into new areas, and asked Nancy to consider undertaking this ministry in Gwinnett County, as was already being done in Jasper, Ga.  The Lord confirmed by opening doors, first by providing us a location through the welcome of Lilburn First Baptist Church, and then by providing excellent Band and Recorder Directors to kick off our first year.  We, too, are starting small, but our students are very motivated, and we are excited, trusting the Lord to prosper us as He tells us “do not despise the day of small things”!

Whether in its base location in Cobb County, or its satellite locations, the Joyful Noise Homeschool Band remains committed to being a ministry to others through the gift of music.  Susan’s vision that no home educated child should miss out on the experience of music because it isn’t available or affordable continues to guide the band’s policies.
